NHS nurses do not deserve the additional worry of paying off their ...

Hello 2D

Have you been finding out about nurses? Nurses do such an incredible job and help so many people. Maybe you’ve done some research on Florence Nightingale. You could find out about  Mary Seacole who was also a nurse in the Crimean War.  I wonder if there are any other famous nurses in history you could learn about? Or perhaps you know a nurse who you’d like to interview to find out more about what they do and their job as a nurse.

Remember to share what you find on our blog. I love seeing your comments and photos.

Hi it’s Grace here. Today I dressed up as a superhero and did some crazy moves on the trampoline. We also had a go at drawing a superhero using a video from youtube to help. I hope you like it. I have been doing the maths work that school have set and also having a go at BBC Bitesize. I really enjoyed learning about VE day last week. Bye

Make a Wildlife Journal

Hello 2D

I hope that you have all had a look at this week’s learning activities. They are all about ‘Heroes’.

Heroes don’t all look the same or wear a cloak and mask. Most heroes are very ordinary people. I think that one of our local heroes is Maria Devereaux. If you have ever been to Wild Cat Wilderness in Catford you will have met her. She noticed that there was a big space that wasn’t being used and was overgrown. She worked hard, with some helpers, to clear the area and make it into an exciting place for children and adults to learn about wildlife.

Have a look at her video about starting a nature journal. You can make one too. This can also be done from your bedroom or living room window. Record what you can see and hear at different times of the day.

Nature Journal

Next week I will be calling again for a chat and to see how you are.

Happy learning.

Family Film Night

Paddington Bear | Paddington film, Paddington

Hello 2D

I’ve really been missing going to the cinema and I was thinking of ways to make watching a film at home even more fun. Here are a few ideas to get everyone in your family involved.

You could take turns to choose a film to watch together.

Make a poster about the film to go in the foyer (hall).

Turn your living room into a cinema. Number your sofa seats and chairs.

One person can be the usher. They could have a torch so that they can show each person to their seat and make sure that everyone has turned their phones off.

One person can sell tickets (you can make these) from a booth – you can make this with a table or a big cardboard box.

One person can be the projectionist. Their job is to make sure the lighting is right before the film starts.

One person can be in charge of drinks and snacks .  Customers can buy these with real money or you could make some money or vouchers.

When you’ve watched the film you could even write your own review. If you get a few you could make a family film review magazine.

Let me know what your favourite film is. I’ve got Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Paddington saved for a rainy day.

Have fun x

The Amazing Whizz Pop Bang Engineering Challenge

0

Posted by lucilletorridon | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 2nd May 2020

Hey 2D

Are you up for a lockdown engineering challenge? We want to see you transform your loo roll tubes into engineering masterpieces!

Show off your engineering prowess by building a structure using cardboard tubes – you could build a bridge, a model building, a marble run, a miniature playground or any structure you can think of! You can also incorporate paper, cardboard and other embellishments too if you like.

The five most creative constructions (as judged by the Whizz Pop Bang science magazine team and their kids!) will each win a binder full of 12 back issues of Whizz Pop Bang magazine.

Post a photo of your loo roll construction with the hashtag #whizzpopbangloorollengineering or email it to y@whizzpopbang.com with the subject ‘Loo roll engineering’ and you could win 12 Whizz Pop Bang magazines, plus an awesome binder to put them all in! The competition is open to all ages and whole families are encouraged to build together. The competition is open until 31st May, which should give you some time to build up your loo roll collections! Read full terms and conditions of all Whizz Pop Bang competitions on their website.

And don’t forget to post your amazing engineering achievements on here so that we can all see them. Happy inventing.

Growing

Hi 2D

Can you remember the amaryllis that we grew in the classroom? Well, I took it home so it wouldn’t die and guess what. It grew another flower stalk and had not one, not two but three enormous flowers on it. Here is a photo of one of them. Isn’t it beautiful? You can really see the stamens holding the pollen.

I also went into school on Friday and checked on our potatoes. They are growing  really well. I’m hoping that when we get back we will have lots and lots of  potatoes to dig up.

Perhaps you are growing some vegetables at home. If you are why don’t you post some photos on this blog?

Happy gardening.
