European countries

Hi 3J,

This week in Geography we used an atlas to locate the main countries in Europe.

These countries are all in the continent of Europe.

Can you remember which countries are closest to England?

Do you know any of the other of the 8 continents?

What continent do you think this is?

And how about this one?

If you’re not sure, you could try finding them on google maps or google earth.

What cities do you recognise in these continents?

Have fun searching!

Hi 3J,

On Friday, during our computing lesson, we practiced our typing skills.

This is the website we used to practice our touch typing – it’s part of bitesize and has a few levels and games to play.

Try going on it again and practicing at home!

This is another website which is quite fun if you want to challenge your speed

Hockey practice

Hi 3J,

Last Thursday we did our very first P.E. lesson out on the pitch.

Well done to the whole class, you did a brilliant job of being sensible with the hockey stick and taking turns to use the ball.

That’s right, we are learning to play HOCKEY!

We watched a very helpful video that showed us how to hold the stick, how to turn the stick from side to side and how to dribble the ball on the spot.

Here is the video so you can watch it again and refresh your memory.

We used the Youtube setting to put it into slow-motion and really focus in on their movements.

This week we practiced that dribbling again and started to practice passing the ball to one another. We also learned a new technique – when someone passes the ball to us, and we want to stop the ball, we kneel down and place the stick on the ground so the ball hits the stick and stops.

If you’re at home, you could pretend to have a hockey stick by using a short broom or a long stick from the garden or park, practice the movement of twisting the left hand at the top like in the video and if you have a tennis ball, you could try using that and practice dribbling on the spot or through obstacles.

There are different dribbling techniques, here is a short video you will enjoy.

This video show you how to pass between two people!

This video shows how to use the ball stop we learned this week:

Do you recognize anything you managed to do in this weeks P.E. lesson?

Maybe next week you will be more confident and try something new!

Healthy lifestyles in week 4

Hi 3J,

During our Science lesson on Monday we talked about why living things need food, the different ways that living things get food and what happens when humans don’t have food!

We also did some work in PSHE about a balanced lifestyle – keeping everything at a balance. SOME water, not too much; SOME sugary foods, not too many; SOME screen time, not all day; SOME sleep, not too much (and many more ideas).

Think about what you get up to daily. Think about what makes your lifestyle well balanced. Is there anything you should change to make it more balanced?

I have a good balance of sleep, I always manage to get 8 hours of sleep but I know I need to be sure to drink more water and stay hydrated.

What about you?

Our local area

Hi 3J

This week in Geography we started looking at our ‘local area’ on a map.

Can you remember the key differences we noticed between the Google EARTH images and the Google MAPS images?

We each looked carefully at this section of the map and found:

6 schools (including nurseries, a secondary and a Turkish school)

4 shops

1 church

and the medical practice!

We also discussed which hospital is local to us. Can you remember which one?

Look on Google maps again and try to find the nearest park, nearest hairdressers or barbers and the nearest food shop to your house!

Have fun searching,

Lucille

Welcome to 3J

What a fantastic start to the new school year!

I really enjoyed getting to know you and seeing how much you have learnt over the summer.

This week I am most proud of our artwork from Thursday. Take a look at the photos to remind yourself of the great work you produced as a team!

We used cotton buds to make dots all across the page – this is a style called pointillism. The earth relates to our English project following Oliver Jeffers book ‘Here We Are’.

You all seemed to have so much fun, I hope you are proud.

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday with heaps of energy for another great week!

Lucille
