Keeping Fit

Hello 2D,

I’ve been doing a lot of running lately but I’d really like to know which is the best kind of exercise to make my heart beat faster and help me breathe deeper. Could you think about how to investigate this? What kinds of exercise could you do? How will you measure what happens? It can be quite hard to count your heart beats. Maybe you could count your breaths for 30 seconds before exercise and after each exercise.

Now I know that you know that exercise makes your heart stronger and your lungs work better, as well as making your muscles stronger, but did you know that it also helps your brain to grow bigger and helps you to learn more easily? And did you know that exercise makes you HAPPY? When you exercise your body releases something called endorphins and these make you feel happy. It’s a fact!

Check out Maddie and Greg’s Garden Gym. If you can’t go out you can do these inside as well.

And don’t forget to tell me what you think is the best exercise.

Shadows

Hello again

Yesterday I should have been running in the Brighton Marathon but sadly it had to be cancelled. Even though I couldn’t run a marathon I still managed to run 26.2 miles over the week. It’s a lot easier than doing it all in one day! While I was out I saw lots of beautiful shadows. Have you ever seen a sun dial? Here is a picture of the big one in Greenwich Park. Can you tell what time it is?

As the sunlight moves around the post the shadow points to a different number. Do you know why this happens? If not you could do some research. Perhaps you could make your own sundial. If you can go outside you could push a stick or a pole into the ground or put it in an upside down plant pot or a bucket. You could chalk numbers on the ground or write them on pieces of paper. If you can’t go outside you could make one inside. Use a torch or a lamp for the sun. There are some good ideas on You Tube.

Can you make some shadows, either in the sun or using a torch or a lamp? Can you draw a shadow that you see? Maybe you could make a shadow puppet. I would love to see what you have made.

Science Week

Hello 2D

I hope that you are all keeping safe and well.

This week is SCIENCE WEEK so we’re going to think of some science related activities for you to do. On the school website you can find some ideas and lots of links to useful websites. Have a look and see what you would like to do. If you have some good ideas for activities you can share them here.

While it’s been nice and sunny I have been spending time in my garden. Sometimes I do some tidying or planting and sometimes (quite often) I lie on my bench and read. I’ve been reading a book on my ipad but it’s been so hot my ipad overheats! I really prefer reading a paper book because you don’t have to worry about the sun reflecting on the screen. Anyway, when I was tidying my garden I found some interesting things. I know what some of them are but I’m not sure about all of them. Do you think that you could do some research to help me identify everything? Here are some photos.

Now I’m sure that you know which one is a snail, but can you tell me what kind of snail it is? Try to find as much information as you can. Can you draw, paint a picture or make a collage of a minibeast? I’d love to see your work.

Have a great day and don’t forget to tell me all about it.

Welcome to Science Week.

Birdsong

Posted by lucilletorridon | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 3rd April 2020

Hello 2D

Yesterday I went for a walk in the park and listened to the birds to see how many I could hear and name. I made a recording on my phone but I’m not sure how to make it so you can listen to it. If I can work it out I’ll post it on here. I know that I heard a blackbird and lots of sparrows, a pigeon and some parakeets as they flew over. How many birds have you heard?

Step Through A Page

Hello 2D

Here is a little fun activity that I tried yesterday. Can you step through a page? I’ve attached the instructions and a page for you to print or copy. Don’t worry if you don’t have a printer – you can copy the sheet. All you need is a ruler or something to draw straight lines with – you could use a cereal box. You will also need a pair of scissors. You could use all different sizes and shapes of paper. How many people can you get through one piece? What’s the smallest piece of paper that you can get through?

I’m also going to share a link to the Topical Science Update which you might have fun reading.

Let me know how you get on.

Daffodil Dissection

Posted by lucilletorridon | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 2nd April 2020

Hey 2D

Look what I just found. This would have been really useful when we were dissecting daffodils. Can you remember all the parts of the flower and the special job each part has?

These videos look really good. I haven’t seen all of them but I’m going to try to watch them and get some more good ideas.

I was going to show you some photos of flowers for you to identify but guess what? Maddie and Greg have done it for me! How many flowers can you name?

Maybe, if you go for a walk, or if you have a garden, you could take a photo of some of the flowers that you see and post them here. I’m going to look for different types of blossom.

Why don’t you have a go?

Hello 2D

Have you made a rainbow to put in your window yet?

Check out these rainbow ideas at

Rainbow fun!

Why don’t you have a go at making a rainbow and post a photo on this blog? I’d love to see what you have been doing?

Remember to wash your hands.

Measuring and Comparing

Hello 2D

Addy Gator  needs help in comparing and measuring mass.

For your first maths task I want you to try measuring food items in your home.
We looked at measuring last year so don’t worry if you are unsure.  Just have a go.

You will need
a pen
paper/tablet or something to record your findings
5 items from your kitchen cupboard scales

You need to weigh all the items in grams.
Once all the items are weighed, try using  compare symbols (<, >) to find the lightest and the heaviest item.
Remember “Gator always gets the greatest”.
I have attached a sheet for you to copy or print to record your findings
